Deliver or else
It's important to do what you say you are going to do. The quickest way to lose clients, jobs, and even friends is to overpromise and underdeliver.
This is what matters to me. It's always been my approach in life. Give me a minute, and I'll figure it out. My grandmother instilled the curiosity and creative problem-solving ability - and she constantly helped me figure out the stuff in my life.
So, when I say I'll do something, I make sure it gets done. If I ask someone for help, I'm well aware the other person may or may not be able to deliver. So when it's time to outsource a task - I am continuously ready to do it myself, in case it doesn't work out. I used to struggle with letting things go - and while I still work on that issue - I am ok until that deadline hits. If you aren't up to date, I will take over and get shi+ done.
So, today, as I re-boot my email practice, I outlined the promises made to my subscribers. I've shared them below if anyone is interested. But here's the real reason behind my "reboot". I'm really good at what I do, and I love helping people find their comms stride. I work hard, I dig deep, and I can always find a way to deliver value to the people who hire me.
I would never accept a job if I didn't think I could deliver that value. I think that's why I sometimes struggle to make the ask, or fall off track when I'm writing - leaning into some fun story, or less valuable tidbit that isn't about communications.
As I crafted my promises - I left a lot of wiggle room for significant, serious, hardcore comms stuff, helpful tools and tips, some opinions (I've got a lot of these), and even for some fluff. But in all my promises, I wanted to make everyone who invites me into their inbox feel like I care about helping them get their message out there - in their voice, using the right words, the right tone, and the right channels - so their people know what matters.
If you are interested in what I've promised, here are the 5 things my community gets from me (or will get if you sign up today) and the things that steer my content approach.

As a subscriber, you’ll get actionable ideas, tools, and tips to elevate your communications, along with early access to my articles and subscriber-only freebies.
These emails will be short (never more than 5 minutes) and will always share valuable information.
If I share something fluffy (because sometimes you just must share something awesome but not particularly valuable), I’ll tell you in the first line.
I will always share real examples & experiences I’ve had (or know someone who has). I’ll change names, locations, and details to protect the guilty – but all my stories really happened.
I will personally respond to every email. Not AI, not an assistant (HA, I don’t even have an assistant); lil' ole' me – replying to anything you send.
