Whirling dervishes spinning in celebration

Playing Catch Up!

The last few weeks have been bananas. My late grandmother would have referred to me as a whirling dervish - which is exactly how I felt. She was filled with amazing ideas and thoughts and approaches to life that have stayed with me and promise to guide me forever!

If you are wondering what a whirling dervish is - you aren't alone! Below is an image of some whirling dervishes. A whirling dervish is not slang but a figurative term used to describe someone who is extremely energetic, busy, or moving quickly, often with a sense of frenetic energy. It is also the literal name for a member of a specific Sufi Muslim religious order, known for their ritualistic spinning dance. I can see exactly what this means, and I totally get why my grandmother used this term.

Now, back to why I've been spinning and crazy, and almost, but not quite, overwhelmed. Well, mostly - it's because I am alive. I mean - time is flying (for many of us, old and young alike), things in life are really complicated for a lot of reasons, the world is expensive and seems to be getting more costly each day. I've had lots of client work - and for that I am grateful - I've been working IN my business a lot. I've also worked ON my business a lot - improving things like my website, my offerings, narrowing down the services I provide, making sure my funnel is full of potential clients. All the things good business owners need to do to keep the lights on.

I don't claim to have it all figured out - as a matter of fact, last weekend my phone decided to start acting insane, resulting in a new carrier and a phone - which left me without incoming service for an entire weekend. Ummm - talk about feeling disconnected. It was a good lesson in letting go of things I can't control. I am not great at that!

So, the moral of THIS story is - busy times ebb and flow, neither droughts nor rainy-seasons last forever. While we're going through our days, and weeks, and months - remember to embrace the it that you are in the middle of - whether it's a season of chaos or calm. It's temporary - I promise - and the next moment is already on its way to you.

So lean in if you can - try to enjoy where you are, because it's going to shift eventually. Make the next best decision you can - based on what you know right now. That's the only thing you can control.

Have a great rest of your day & we'll talk again later this week.

PS - I fell behind last week, and therefore you'll get some extra attention from me this week! This article post is on Monday - and we'll have another at the end of the week. Same thing is true for my email subscribers - their comms from me came earlier this morning & they'll get a double dose of me this week too. It's rare I miss my weekly connections - but life happens, so we pick up and start again when we need to.

PPS - if you want to hear all about using hors d'oeuvres to get kids to eat their lunches (or any meal really) make sure to subscribe to Up Your Comms! I'll be sharing that story and some sage business wisdom in Thursday's email.
