They asked me anything....

I get asked to share my story kind of a lot. I didn't expect this to be the case when I launched Hardin Heights - but it has become a really rewarding part of what I do as a solopreneur.

I am not sure why I was surprised, because when I started doing my own thing, I leaned in to all the other small business owners telling their stories - and wanted to hear about their journeys, their origin stories. And while I don't consider myself an expert, I am now one of the people who actually took the leap (even if it felt more like I was pushed) into starting my own gig - and I am happy to be able to share the details, the pitfalls, the scary unknowns, as well as the deep satisfaction of doing my own thing.

The thing people (including me) often don't know, is that deciding to start your own business is much scarier in your head that it is in real life. Hmmmm, reminds me of what I tell people about change communications all the time. I really wish I understood how to do this on my own sooner. I could have been doing this for years - and I think it would have made me much happier.

Don't mistake on your own for alone.

The small business people I've found along my way have been amazing. They are helpful, generous, open and honest. And while I am not yet getting rich at Hardin Heights - I 100% know I will get there. And the best part (for me) is the ability to spend time with my girls without much notice (they are both away at school - 1 and 3 hours away). I can visit my sister in Colorado in April - and take time away to just be with her. I get to prioritize what matters to me and serve my clients in a value-driven way.

I love what I do - and I worried a bit about what it would look and feel like without a team. Without direction or a common purpose (like selling Stouffer's mac and cheese, or information sharing at Progressive). By connecting with others in this space - in all kinds of niches and industries, including my own - I am able to feel that same community. And, actually it's better.

If you are wondering about launching your own gig - take a peek at my AMA recording (link above and below) and hear my story, then listen to the questions and answers, and if you are still intrigued, reach out. I love connecting with people!
