Messy Weeks and Magic Moments: Why I Love the Solopreneur Life
This week has been a lot. A dear friend is facing a serious health crisis, one daughter is fighting off a stubborn summer cold, and the other is officially navigating the world of “adulting” in her first off-campus apartment (read: lots of texts about paying bills, cooking tofu, baking sourdough and how to clean the oven). Oh, and it’s been raining nonstop in Cleveland — which feels symbolic, honestly.
As a solopreneur, all of that comes with you to work. There’s no magical door that separates my personal life from my professional responsibilities. It’s all one big swirl of emails, doctor updates, client calls, cough syrup, and dog walks in the drizzle. And still - and this is the magic - there’s also real joy in it. I love my messy weeks and magic moments. Supporting my clients through their big weeks, being trusted with their communications during moments that really matter? It’s deeply satisfying. I get to do meaningful work while still being there for the people I love. That kind of flexibility is a blessing I never take for granted — even when everything’s messy. That's why I love the solopreneur life!
While we are speaking of messy… I found out recently that one of the services I do offer isn’t even on some clients’ radar. Turns out I’ve been a little too quiet about it. So, clearly my marketing for that particular thing needs some love - noted! (The cobbler’s kids go barefoot, right?) Really grateful for a fellow small business owner for bringing that to my attention! One of the great things about running your own business is that you can always tweak, improve, and try again. What worked last month might not work this month — and that’s okay.
It’s all a work in progress. Life, business, parenting, weather forecasts — none of it stays the same for long. Cheers to doing our best, adjusting as we go, and remembering why we started in the first place.
New plan incoming: this weekend, I’m hitting the reset button. Nothing fancy — just a little extra sleep, time outside (if the rain lets up!), and maybe finally tackling the laundry pile that’s been giving me side-eye all week. I’ve learned that even small resets can make a big difference. A quiet morning with coffee and no agenda is sometimes the best kind of medicine.
Then next week, it’s back at it - but with a clearer head and a sharper focus. I’ve got some client projects I’m genuinely excited about, and I’ll be carving out time to revisit my marketing plan (especially for that one mystery service that deserves a little spotlight).
I’m also planning for an upcoming vacation - a real, out-of-office, toes-in-the-sand kind of break. That’s the beauty of this solopreneur life: when you work hard and plan ahead, you can give yourself time to step away.
Here’s to slowing down when needed, showing up when it matters, and always keeping an eye on the next little adventure. Whether that’s a weekend recharge or a summer getaway, both feel well-earned in this moment.
